New to the Sport? What is Expedition Canada...
Expedition Canada is a multi-day adventure race involving trekking, trail running, mountain biking, rafting and canoeing, orienteering, and rappelling or canyoning. Mixed, Male, Female, Young and Masters teams of 4 must navigate their way, unsupported through arduous course hundred of kilometers long that is only revealed to them hours before. This is an exciting but challenging race. We guarantee a race to remember.
Event Overview:

Expedition Canada has run 3 expedition races to date and each year a new and exciting course has been developed by our race director and the team at Hoodoo Adventures. In 2025 we have an amazing new organizing team who will be designing an unbeatable course for the ARWS World Championships.
The course outline and logistics are released approximately three weeks before the race and maps and more details about each leg are delivered a couple hours before race start in a lock down room.

Race length and finishing time expectations for World Champs 2025 will be released early in 2024. The course will be open for a maximum of 9 days with the goal of giving everyone a chance to finish.

There will be no mandatory stops and no optional controls.

As always, teams will be carrying tracking devices so friends and family can follow each team live in real-time. Media will post daily pictures and video highlights on our social channels as well as other media partners giving hourly race summaries.

Get to know the Lingo & how it all works:
What is a Check Point (CP)?
A designated location on the course that racers must navigate to and verify their presence using a specific method, typically a punch or an electronic device. Checkpoints are the core of the navigation aspect, guiding teams through the course and serving as the primary way to track their progress.

What is a Transition Area (TA)?
In adventure racing, a transition area (TA) is a designated location where teams switch between different legs of the race, which involve different disciplines like trekking, biking, or kayaking. TAs serve as hubs for resupplying, changing equipment, and preparing for the next stage of the race. They are crucial for managing gear, food, and clothing, especially in longer races where access to personal or team gear is vital.

How do you score points in an adventure race?
In adventure racing, scoring typically involves teams navigating an unmarked course, collecting checkpoints in a specific order (linear races) or in any order within a time limit (score events), and completing all stages. The team that finishes the course, adheres to all rules, and incurs the least penalties is declared the winner.
